SIP trunking Basics:
- In a general sense, SIP trunking is an application layer-based protocol that enables individuals to
make calls and other interactions over the IP network to a Telephone System.
- Sip Trunking can be utilized on both Digital and VoIP Telephone systems.
- SIP trunking are also incorporating unified communications into their collaborative strategies.

Basic SIP Trunk Troubleshooting:
By finding the source of the problem, you will know whom to call to have the problem repaired.Unable to Connect to the SIP Switch:
- Check your Internet Connection.
- If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is experiencing a service interruption, your SIP Services will not work as well.
- Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for support.
- Ironton DSL customers:
- Refer to - "DSL Service Support".
- If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is experiencing a service interruption, your SIP Services will not work as well.
- Check the connections to the Phone System.
- Make sure the Patch Cable is securely connected to the Phone System.
- Unable to obtain an IP address on the internal network.
- Contact your Phone System Vendor.
- Contact your IT professional to check the internal network and Firewall Settings.
- Proceed to Step 3.
- Bypass the Internal Network.
- Plug the Phone System directly into Internet Service Provider's (ISP) (cable or DSL) modem.
- If the Phone System obtains an IP address and registers, there is an issue with the sites internal network.
- Contact your IT professional to troubleshoot and repair the Internal Network Eguipment.
- If the Phone System does not obtain an IP address.
- Contact your Phone System Vendor.
- Contact your ISP to troubleshoot the Internet connection.
- If the Phone System obtains an IP address and does not register.
- Refer to - Registration Issues.
- Contact Ironton Technical Support if required.
Verify Phone Number Settings:
- Is the phone number a Registered account ID or Alias (DID) under a registered account?
- Registered account ID:
- Is the Account ID a registered number to the phone system?
- Refer to - Registration Issues.
- Is the Account ID forwarded to another Account?
- Verify the account the number is forwarded to.
- Is the Account ID forwarded to a SIP URI?
- Verify the IP address the number is forwarded to.
- Is the Account ID a registered number to the phone system?
- Alias:
- Is the Alias a standard DID.
- The Phone System controls the routing of the calls once delivered to the Account ID.
- Verify the phone system's routing.
- Contact the phone system vendor if required.
- or does the Alias Allow Authentication / Registration?
- Verify the number is registered to the SIP Switch.
- Refer to - Registration Issues.
- Verify the number is registered to the SIP Switch.
- Is the Alias a standard DID.
- Registered account ID:
- Verify the phone system is receiving inbound calls from the trunk.
- Contact the phone system vendor if required.
- Contact your IP professional if required.
- Technical Support will be able to supply where the call was delivered.
- Verify the phone system is sending outbound calls to the trunk.
- Contact the phone system vendor if required.
- Contact your IP professional if required.
- Technical Support will be able to supply where the call was delivered.
Registration Issues:
- Verify the site has internet services.
- If you are not able to access the internet.
- Contact your IT Professional to troubleshoot.

- If you are not able to access the internet.
- Verify Firewall & Router settings.
- Disable SIPALG.
- Verify Authentication Settings.
- Authentication provided in welcome letter.
- Contact Ironton Technical support for verification if required.
- Must be performed by the Accounts Authorized Contact.
- Registration Credentials can also be found in the Web Self-care.
