Meridian 1 System Software

Meridian 1 Generic X11 Release 23 - North America (11/97)

Meridian 1 Generic X11 Release 23 - North America (11/97) software, is designed to provide both increased user functionality and progressive evolution of Nortel's Meridian 1. From a core system perspective, Release 23 has taken steps to increase system real-time performance with the introduction of the 68060 processor, and the Meridian 1 system software is easier to install and upgrade when using the optional CD-ROM. Along the same lines, RAN and Music Broadcast have optimized system performance by introducing a new "time slot sharing" technology which frees up system hardware resources including Universal Trunk Cards and Conference Cards.

Safety enhancements made on Release 23 System Software help security personnel, system administrators, and attendants process emergency calls faster and more efficiently than ever before. Emergency Services Access shortens emergency response time by providing non-DID number translation, on-site notification to security personnel, and routing control of emergency calls. And new attendant console enhancements improve response time by allowing attendants to give priority answering to emergency calls.

Nortel has also increased its interoperability with other vendors at both the desktop and central office with support for emerging networking standards such as ISDN Q.Sig for open ISDN networking with multi-vendor equipment. These networking enhancements reduce trunking costs and improve feature operation when used with third party equipment such as PBXs, central office switches, and BRI equipment.

Call management efficiency is optimized with the new desktop features introduced with Release 23. Selectable Conferee Display and Disconnect increases productivity by allowing users to disconnect members of a conference call, most useful for disconnecting an answering machine or music-on-hold from a conference call. Automatic Set Display saves users time by automatically displaying calling party information for a second incoming call on Meridian 1 Digital Telephone displays.

Summary of Features:

  • 68060 Call Processor on Options 51C-81C: 33% improvement in real time call processing over the 68040 processor. Benefit: Provides more horsepower for application intensive environments.
  • IODU/C: Provides new method for software delivery via generic CD-ROM and customized keycodes to activate software feature packages and TN levels. New IODU/C card required.
    • Benefits: Faster and more simplified software update and delivery process.
  • RAN Broadcast: Allows up to 48 callers within a Meridian 1 system to simultaneously listen to a single RAN broadcast source. New queuing mechanism allows announcements to be staggered based on either elapsed time or number of calls queued.
    • Benefits: Improved system peripheral capacity and reliability.
  • Music Broadcast: Allows up to 64 callers within a Meridian 1 system to simultaneously listen to a single Music source without using conference hardware connections. Will deliver up to 10,000 music connections per system.
    • Benefit: Simplified installation and maintenance as well as increased music reliability and network slot savings.
  • NI1-BRI Compliance Enhancements: Increased support for NI1-BRI standards for connectivity to third party BRI terminal adapters, multiplexers, routers, bridges, etc.
    • Benefit: Increased 3rd party connectivity to data network through Meridian 1 system.
  • NI2-Call by Call Service Selection: Allows incoming ISDN channels to be assigned a trunk type on a per call basis rather than being dedicated. Similar to Meridian 1 call-by-call service selection but has increased traffic measurements such as incoming and outgoing trunk usage, number of trunks working, overflow, all trunks busy, incoming & outgoing ISA peg count.
    • Benefit: Saves money by optimizing trunk usage.
  • Q.Sig Supplementary Service Path Replacement: Allows an active call connection through a Q.Sig private network to be replaced by a new connection after a call modification, like call forwarding, in order to obtain a more efficient connection. Similar to Meridian 1 Trunk Anti-Tromboning but this feature specifically supports the Q.Sig standard.
    • Benefit: Reduces costs and increases network efficiency by eliminating unnecessary connections when connecting to 3rd party switches.
  • Q.Sig SS - Call Diversion Notification: Provides display notification to the originating and diverted-to parties when a call is a Call Forward All Calls, Call Forward Busy, or Call Forward No Answer. Supports the Q.Sig standard for interworking between third party PBXs.
    • Benefit: Improves personal productivity in multi-vendor environments.
  • System Speed Call - Pretranslation Enhancement: Provides the user with an option to allow or deny pretranslation from occurring on a System Speed Call list entry when dial accessed. Can be used in restricted environments, such as prisons, to provide 1 touch dialing on analog phones.
    • Benefit: Provides increased control for system administrators in restricted environments.
  • Seven Digit DNIS for MAX: Increases maximum allowable DNIS digits sent from Meridian 1 to Meridian Max. Previously, only the first four or last 4 DNIS digits were sent, now up to 7 DNIS digits can be sent to Meridian MAX. Benefit: Increases call processing capabilities and reduces time to service in call center environments.
  • B-Channel Overload Control: Regulates incoming ISDN B-Channel rate during periods of highly burst traffic.
    • Benefit: Maintains consistent call processing during peak traffic periods.
  • CDR on Busy Tone: Provides a CDR record for incoming calls which encounter a busy tone and, therefore; abandon the call.
    • Benefit: Allows system administrators to help define required staffing and equipment resources.
  • Selectable Conferee Display/Disconnect: Allows users to scroll through and selectively drop any party that has been added to a conference call. Alternate display options provide additional information including; number of internal conferees, number of external conferees, total number of conferees, and names of the conferees.
    • Benefit: Increased desktop control for conference calls.
  • Individual Hold Enhancement: When one member of a Multiple Appearance DN (MADN) puts a call on hold, the Individual Hold Lamp Option provides a "winking" lamp at the on-hold station and a steady "lit" lamp at all other stations.
    • Benefit: New call treatment for MADN users.
  • CLASS Services: Provides Calling Name, Number, Date, and Time to CLASS (Custom Local Area Signaling Service) compatible analog telephone sets. Requires a minimum of one Extended CLASS Modem Card (XCMC) per system.
    • Benefit: Brings display functionality to analog sets.
  • Emergency Services Access (ESA): In accordance with FCC regulations, Emergency Services Access allows any Meridian 1 telephone to dial 911 (overriding their station¹s class of service), provides outgoing ANI number translation for non-DID calls, provides onsite notification to TTYs and a specifically designated OSN teleset, and supports both CAMA and ISDN trunks to public network emergency services.
    • Benefit: Standardizes emergency dialing, improves emergency response time, and provides an integrated software solution for emergencies.
  • Attendant Console Enhancements: Adds a new "autoline" key to store pre-programmed emergency numbers (similar to autodial, but cannot be accidentally erased), provides an audible and visual notification to multiple attendant consoles on the same key when a specific emergency number is dialed, and allows any internal or external caller to directly dial a specific attendant without being queued.
    • Benefit: Improves customer responsiveness for attendants, especially in emergency situations.
  • Automatic Set Display: If an incoming call is received on a busy Meridian 1 digital set, this feature will Automatically display the CLID (number) and CPND (name) of the incoming caller without the user pressing the DISPLAY key (current operation). This functionality will work if the incoming call terminates on either a DN key or a CALL WAITING key.
    • Benefit: Simplifies display operation for digital set users.
  • NPI and TON in CDR Tickets: This feature includes the Numbering Plan Identification (NPI) and the Type Of Number (TON) on the third line of CDR records/tickets. This information will indicate to system administrators whether a call has originated on a public or private network, and whether it is a local, national, or international number.
    • Benefit: Helps system administrators identify the most efficient network connections to optimize system resources.
  • Dual VAS ID: Allows both Meridian Mail and Meridian Link to access information from a single ACD DN over the Application Module Link. Retains caller information/screen pop when a call is presented to Meridian Mail and then forwarded back to another agent.
    • Benefit: Retains caller information to ensure proper call center response.
