* While it is recommended to have a qualified telephone technician come to install, troubleshoot and/or repair inside wiring, you may follow the steps listed here to troubleshoot on your own. Please note the cautions listed here before attempting any repairs.
Basic steps for troubleshooting if you do not have dialtone

If your telephone is not working, please follow the steps to diagnose the trouble to see if the problem is in the telephone, inside wiring or outside the home. By finding the source of the problem, you will know who to call to have the problem repaired.
Note:
If you do not have an inside wiring plan and the trouble is inside your home, services fees will apply.
Note:
Ironton Telephone Company does not repair third party telephone equipment. A service fee will be charged for a problem with your telephones or related equipment if you call us to your residence or business. If you subscribe to our inside wiring plan, there will be no charge for the service call.
- If you are having problems making long distance calls, please contact your long distance company.
- If the problem is with the lines outside of your home or business, Ironton Telephone will resolve it promptly, and in most cases without cost to you.
- If the problem is with the inside wiring or jacks, you may do the following.
- Make your own repairs.
- Have an electrician, contractor, or another party make the repairs.
- Call Ironton Telephone to make the repairs for a fee based on the amount of time and cost of materials needed to perform the work.
The responsibility of maintaining the inside wiring may not be yours if you reside in an apartment, dorm, condo, co-op, nursing home or other group living facility. Please contact the property owner or manager to determine responsibility.
Repair Rates
To avoid unnecessary service charges, please follow the troubleshooting guides in this section.
There is no billing to the subscriber for the following:
- The problem is at the Network Interface Device (NID).
- The problem is located in Ironton's Telephone Network.
- The problem is with a jack covered under a monthly maintenance charge.
- The telephone cable and jack must be installed by Ironton Telephone Co. technicians to be eligible for a maintenance agreement.
- The problem is with a phone rented from Ironton Telephone Co.
If a trouble is reported and it is Customer Owned Wiring (COW) or Ironton Telephone Company Wiring and the subscriber does not have Station Wiring Maintenance:
- $50.00 Service Charge
- If no trouble is found at the Network Interface Device (NID)
- $90.00 per hour plus materials.
- If subscriber wants Ironton Telephone to work on the inside wiring while a technician is there.
- Billing is calculated in 1/2 hour increments - minimum of 1/2 hour.
If a trouble is reported and it is Ironton Telephone Company Wiring and the subscriber does have Station Wiring Maintenance:
- $50.00 Service Charge
- If no trouble is found at the Network Interface Device (NID) or at the Jacks.
- If the problem is proven to be a Customer Owned Equipment Problem.
- No Charge (N/C)
- If the problem is in the inside wiring (I/S) and it is under a monthly maintenance charge.
